Butter-Basted T-Bone Steak (Gluten-free, no soy/grains)

Once you try this pan-seared buttery t-bone, you might never go back to steaks on the grill again! Halfway through cooking, the steaks are basted with a mix of butter (I use dairy-free butter substitute), rosemary, and garlic that develops a rich, flavorful crust on the outside.

This recipe also works with other cuts and is super tasty with ribeye. Since you don't have to do any chopping, prep is super easy. Plus, it only requires one pan so clean-up is a breeze!

Let the steak come up to room temperature for about 30 minutes.

Sear on high for about 5 minutes per side basting with the herb butter.

Let the steak rest for 8-10 minutes before slicing!!!!

Letting the steak rest is the hardest part! I looks so sizzling and yummy. Do NOT give in to temptation! If you slice it too early, all of the juices will run out and you will be left with dry meat... bleh. Resting allows all of those juices to redistribute and settle into the meat keeping it juicy.

I served this t-bone family-style with a large veggie salad. I just love the way the steak warms the veggies and the seasonings from the crust adds another punch of flavor!

Butter-Basted T-Bone Steak (Gluten-free, no soy/grains)

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 two-pound t-bone steak (or two 1 1/4 lb bone-in ribeye steaks)

  • Kosher salt

  • Freshly ground pepper

  • 2 T canola oil (I used a canola oil and coconut oil blend)

  • 4 T butter (or dairy free butter substitute like Earth Balance )

  • 3 garlic cloves

  • 2 fresh rosemary sprigs

DIRECTIONS:

  • Season the steak all over with salt and freshly ground pepper. Let the steaks stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.

  • In a large skillet, heat the oil until shimmering.

  • Add the steak and cook over high heat until crusty on the bottom, about 5 minutes.

  • Flip the steak and add the butter, garlic and rosemary to the skillet.

  • Continue to cook over high heat, basting the steak with the melted butter, garlic and herbs, until medium-rare, 5 to 7 minutes longer.

  • Transfer the steak to a cutting board and let rest for 10 minutes. (If you slice into it right away, all of the yummy juices will run out and you'll be left with dry meat... no bueno)

  • Cut the steaks off the bone, slice the meat across the grain and serve.
