Best Non-Butter Butter

If you're recovering from a "glutening", it's important to avoid dairy, even if you are not lactose intolerant. The tips of the villi in your gut that process dairy can be too damaged at this time to do their job so you will be delaying recovery if you put the additional stress of dairy on them.

There are a lot of butter substitutes on the market, but most of them contain soy. Since I also have to avoid soy, those obviously aren't an option. Enter Earth Balance. This is the first dairy-free, soy-free butter substitute I've found that actually tastes, cooks and spreads like real butter. Being from America's Dairyland, that's saying a lot. :)


NOTE: This product contains pea protein. Many people sensitive to soy are also sensitive to other legumes such as peas and peanuts. Because there are conflicting reports about whether processing the pea protein removes the substance that triggers a sensitivity reaction, you might want to proceed with caution and add it to your diet slowly.
